United Aid Projects

The Pintados and Kasadyaan Festivals we're organised by two local government units in Palo, Leyte and Tacloban City. The fiesta was meaningful as it unites them to hold separate grand celebrations, a perfect time for expressing gratitude, of helping each other and of prayers.

With Unity, wonderful things can really be achieved.
The Fiesta did not only unite the people and its municipalities but also the supporters around the world as blessings and help continue to pour.

The 97 children & their trusted carers in the 3 social welfare centres we visited last week wish to say thank you to all of our two major co-sponsors, followers & the many talented event day international volunteers.

Through your generous support we were able to donate the following much needed supplies:

✓ 200 kilograms of Rice
✓ 50 Litres of Milk (equivalent)
✓ 400 Disposable Diapers/Nappies
✓ Snacks & treats
✓ 3 large bags of pre-loved clothing
✓ Hair Accessories
✓ Jewelry
✓ Fiesta Token Gifts

Thankfully through our Philippines' aid partner Volunteer for the Visayans we received government permission to enter these compounds but for their own protection we were unable to publish photos of the children.

However, we can assure you the volunteer event crew witnessed all 97 glowing smiles when we brought the fun of the Tacloban-Leyte Fiesta to these kids.

Our recent special community aid project in Leyte, Philippines enabled the children from 3 social welfare centers to have fun and get a glimpse of our own Filipino tradition.

The Volunteer for the Visayans staff and volunteers painted their face like
dancers of Pintados-Kasadyaan Festival and have also prepared a dance presentation for them.

From everyone at United Aid Projects, we would like to say THANK YOU for
your support in this project and your commitment that enable us to make a difference through the work we do.

One of the most anticipated events in the month of June is the merged celebration of the Pintados and Kasadyaan Festival in Tacloban, Philippines.

The festive dancers paint their bodies from head to toe with designs that
look like armor and resemble the ancient tattooed warriors.

Upcoming project: Bringing the fun of Tacloban Fiesta to the kids....

Date: Wednesday June 19, 2019

Location: Palo, Leyte (Philippines)

The Pintados Festival is an annual cultural celebration in Tacloban based on the body-painting traditions of the ancient tattooed "pintados" warriors.

In collaboration with Volunteer for the Visayans we be visiting a group of 3 social welfare centers accommodating 100 kids. Unfortunately these kids are unable to attend the public fiesta events. So we will bring a little Fiesta fun times to them....

A pair of take home swimming goggles brings big smiles to the kids faces at last weeks main event swimming activity.

We put a call out to business friends the day before the main event looking for a event day special gift sponsor.

Bryden Halloway and his awesome team at Compliant Business Processing answered the call to fund the purchase of 35 pairs of goggles 👍

Philippines Nutrition project update

Healthy eating, good nutrition helps to build smart minds with young children.

A perfect example of this is a young girl from our preschool feeding program.

Miss Tzuchai is a gold medal honor student for the region.

Congratulations Tzuchai and thank you for the invitation to attend the graduation ceremony today.

Your father and mother are very proud. I witnessed this firsthand today.

"Summer School Break Swimming Event"
(Tacloban, Tanauan & Palo) - April 2019
Update:

Today is the start of the 2-day End-of-School-year swimming activity excursions for all 50 kids from the previous United Aid Projects (UAP) swim school event in October 2018. This is another perfect opportunity of giving back and to make a real difference to the lives of children.

We could not accomplish our goals without the involvement and enthusiasm of all our committed supporters and one of them is our current major sponsor
A2B Solution Group, a consulting company providing services and assisting clients in achieving the most from CargoWise One System. The wonderful co-sponsorship cover some of the cost from the "Give Love Project" of Volunteer for the Visayans (VFV) in partnership of UAP last February 14, 2019 and also this month's end-of-school-year swimming activity.

Again, we appreciate your very generous sponsorship Anthony Brennan and the team at A2B Solution Group; also to all our kind supporters, we very much value the donations received.

#FromLittleThingsBigThingsContinueToGrowPhilippines Project: Tacloban Swimming Program (March 2015)

Thank you to all of those who assisted Deb & I with the 4 day swim school program held over 2 weekends in March 2015. By all reports the event was a big success. We witnessed first hand how the children were at first still apprehensive about the water but by the 4th day the kids were more confident and actually began to enjoy swimming like kids should.

Some of kids could still be carrying dark memories of Typhoon Yolanda which devastated the area in 2014. A few of them needed a comforting cuddle at times. Hopefully though we have assisted in making those thoughts a thing of the past. Their new swimming skills will help them journey through life.

Special recognition
Firstly a big thank you to the awesome team at Volunteer For the Visayans in assisting us (with a special mention to Crisel who organised the children, jeepney and found the swimming venue).

A sincere thank you goes out to the other international volunteers who gave up their much needed recharge on the weekends - your assistance was very much appreciated.

We very much appreciated the kind donation of 20 pairs of swimming goggles by Elite Swimming in Ascot Vale. These are being stored at VFV headquarters in Tacloban City for future swimming lessons.

North Melbourne Football Club (AFL) also donated 20 members caps. These were distributed upon the conclusion of the 4 day event to the sponsored kids who attended the swim program. All the kids were very excited and proud to wear their new North Melbourne Kangaroos caps.

Participants
VFV carefully selected 18 of their younger sponsored Tacloban children to attend the swim program . Some of the VFV team not only assisted in and around the pool but also participated in a special adults class during each snack break. Also the other sponsored children that missed out this time will hopefully have a chance when we return in October 2015 & April 2016.

Venue
Choosing a venue to hold the swimming classes isn't an easy task in Tacloban City. VFV negotiated with a local hotel (Leyte
Park Resort) for use of their guest swimming pool for the 4 days. The cost was per head and came to a total of 12,000 peso
(A$355). VFV initially secured special funding to cover this cost but we decided that the 12,000 peso could be distributed in
other ways within the wonderful VFV projects (i.e. nutrition program). We decided to cover the venue cost this time and
will attempt to secure some international sponsors for next time.

Group structure
The children were split into groups of 6. When it was their turn for a lesson they were all eager to learn. We discovered
some really good natural swimmers. Some of our local Tacloban friends even commented that one day it would be great to
see some water sport champions (maybe they will even get that local water polo team to take on the Americans one day).
Oh, almost forgot to mention the fun times when the kids didn't have lessons - it was all about having fun and being safe in
the water. Fun games kept everyone entertained!

After swimming snack time
At the end of each day the kids were treated to some peanut butter sandwiches and sweet snacks. The two loaves of bread
turned into four by the end of the program. The cost of these snacks were ultimately covered by the $55 raised at work
(Clemenger International Freight Port Melbourne office) during the February healthy snacks pilot program. Actually the $55
stretched further to also allow us to supply sunscreen protection for the kids. Many thanks to the majority of CIF staff that
participated in the CIF Healthy Snacks pilot program.

Transportation
The jeepney ride back to VFV headquarters was always full of exhausted sleeping kids. If only we could tap into those
dreams....

Where to next?
Next step is to return back to Tacloban City this October to continue with some further lessons. During this visit we ideally
would like to train a local VFV team member to become a support instructor. This support will become invaluable when we return next April for a week long summer vacation swim program for the sponsored children which will be incorporated in the school holidays. This will enable the children to benefit with a 5 consecutive day program. Our next visit will concentrate on smaller groups with more emphasis on stroke techniques and a more intense water safety element will also be included.

Like to help somehow?
Feel free to contact us if you would like to offer support of any kind. Ideally we would like to remove all swimming lesson project costs for VFV so that they can focus on another great job of pre-event coordinating. We aim to cover not only the venue, equipment & lunch costs but also the transportation if we can.

Any support will be greatly appreciated as Deb & I can’t do it all alone.

GIVE LOVE PROJECT 2019

"Five hundred twenty-five thousand
Six hundred minutes. How do you measure a year in the life".

As this year's VFV Valentines chosen song "Seasons of Love" says, it gives us an inspiring message on how to measure the amount of time and life in love.

The song and this year's Give Love program also reminds that love is important in Life and it is important to love others.

By giving of yourself, your time, your heart to people that you know and you don’t, who aren't that fortunate by making them feel that they are cared for too.

Last February 14, we had an opportunity to extend help, allot time and give love to 85 families from Brgy. Lapay-Tanauan, Leyte and 58 beneficiaries from Regional Rehabilitation Center for Youth (RRCY).

In collaboration with Volunteer for the Visayans (VFV), we were able to deliver pre-loved clothes, hygiene kits, rose plants and rice to our brothers and sisters.

Clearly, every family, every child deserves basic necessities and attention. Regardless of the season or weather, what matters is "now" and how to get involved.

Again, on behalf of Les Treacy & United Aid Projects (UAP), I would like to sincerely thank our friends, families, donors, co-sponsors for your kind support and for all your help which made this project possible.

Let us continue to spread Love, have impact to someone's Life and most importantly, to make a difference.

Our "Give Love" Valentine's Day song from the Volunteer for the Visayans project yesterday.

Join in and share the love.....

"Seasons Of Love"

Five hundred twenty-five thousand
Six hundred minutes
Five hundred twenty-five thousand
Moments so dear
Five hundred twenty-five thousand
Six hundred minutes
How do you measure-measure a year

In daylights- in sunsets
In midnights- in cups of coffee
In inches- in miles
In laughter- in strife

Five hundred twenty-five thousand
Six hundred minutes
How do you measure a year in the life

How about love
How about love
How about love
Measure in love
Seasons of love
Seasons of love

Five hundred twenty-five thousand
Six hundred minutes
Five hundred twenty-five thousand
Journeys to plan
Five hundred twenty-five thousand
Six hundred minutes
How do you measure the life
Of a woman or a man

In truth that she learns
Or in times that he cried
In bridges he burned
Or the way that she dies

Its time now to sing out
Though the story never ends
Lets celebrate
Remember a year in the life of friends

Remember the love
Remember the love
Remember the love
Measure in love
Seasons of love
Seasons of love

Everyday we are pleasantly surprised about the overwhelming support for these upcoming special event Philippines community projects.

This time in relation to financial support through a generous co-sponsor donation. Wishing to remain anonymous at this stage, we thank you in advance on behalf of the 500+ project beneficiaries.

The unexpected wonderful co-sponsorship donation will cover one third of the cost to purchase the local community supplies and the international logistics needs of the student items from Australia.

This kindness will certainly ensure we successfully deliver these two community projects next week.

Thank you our friend we call anonymous for now 😉

Teamwork is the key factor for successful delivery of all of our collaborated aid projects.

But before delivery comes the project scoping, event day planning, consultation with communities, gaining event day volunteer interest, budgeting, supplies purchasing, sorting & packaging of donations, logistics and safety.

Many thanks to Mayen for her wonderful pre-delivery effort on our upcoming student supplies project. Awesome passion to help others!

And the always cool, calm & collected Jude from Volunteer for the Visayans for your ongoing hard work on this years "Give Love" project on Valentine's Day.

Not only will all of the 500+ beneficiaries thank you both very soon but so do I.

Without your hard work, these projects would be just a great idea.

Salamat 🙏

"Give Love" 2019 - Project Update

With most of the pre-project plans finalised, we are putting a call out to those that can help us.... How?

We have reached our numbers for on-ground volunteers but now it's perfect timing to put a call-out for anyone that can kindly donate material aid (such as pre-loved clothing, toys, ect...).

I'm leaving Melbourne, Australia on Saturday 2nd February & have thankfully secured a generous 55kg luggage allowance through Singapore Airlines. I would love to fly out to the Philippines totally maxed out with your "Give Love" donations...

Also like previous larger aid donations, we can utilise the discounted services of DHL Express.

Furthermore any financial support, even a small amount will go a long way to cover the supplies we will need to purchase for this project locally in Tacloban (rice, milk powder, nappies, ect).

Please contact me if you can kindly help out in anyway.

I personally thank my family and friends that have already donated items for this special annual project.

Alone we can only do a little, together we can do so much more....

Philippines Project Update - "Give Love" 2019

With one of our first projects for 2019 less than 4 weeks away, we look back on last years successful "Give Love" project.

Valentine's Day 2018. A special one day community project delivered in collaboration with Volunteer for the Visayans.

Last year's event at one stage looked like unfortunately it couldn't go ahead due to terrible typhoon conditions and flooding.

Through the strong determination of everyone involved, we pushed ahead. United together we successfully shared a little unique love & happiness to 170+ children and young adults that would have gone without on that international day of sharing love.

This year we do it all again....

Update: Melbourne University Medical Aid Donations.....

Thankfully the latest medical aid donations from MUHI Material Aid Program in Australia have successfully reached Tacloban without any unnecessary delays with the Manila Customs clearance process. Some of the items were hand carried by Les last month and the balance were couriered by DHL Express this week.

These much needed medical supplies will be used during the upcoming Volunteer for the Visayans Annual Medical Mission in April.

Another excellent example of a successful collaboration between people & organisations with passion to help others.... Many sincere thanks to Renee (MUHI), Jude (VFV) & our Les.

Fantastic performance from the @ClownerutanGränser
(Clowns without Borders -Sweden)
We had a wonderful time as you brought so much laughter and joy to everyone, in all ages, most especially to children’s faces. You encourage and lift their spirits, allow them to forget their troubles and unimaginable circumstances for a while to simply be "children". Your borderless heart creates a space for others to open their hearts too and be compassionate by sharing fun and laughter. No borders. No bounderies.

Keep clowning guys! 🤡

Christmas Gift- Giving 2018
“Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God." (Hebrews 13:16)

It was a thrilling experience to personally deliver some happiness and make a difference to children's lives this holiday season. More than any material things it's the love, care and personal time we give to them that makes their Christmas more meaningful.
Thanks to the amazing crew of VFV who successfully brought the event together, along with other sponsors and volunteers. We are blessed and overjoyed as we make Christmas a little brighter and merrier for the children.

This may just be a 2-day event, but the generous and touching act of kindness has a huge and positive impact to us and to their lives.

For those friends and family that have supplied many wonderful donations over the last 6 months we say thank you.

Some of your donations will also be distributed to the 3rd annual Gift Giving event called "Give Love" in February on Valentine's Day.

Christmas Gift Giving - Tacloban, Philippines - December 2017

My album of wonderful lifetime memories of Tacloban experiences has grown once more.

Helping Volunteer for the Visayans (VFV) on their annual Christmas Gift Giving projects early this month was a full of many happy emotions.....

Thank you to all of my kind family and friends that gave donations for this recent Tacloban project. Many of the sensitive sites we visited there were no cameras allowed, but I can assure you that your gifts made many of the kids and young adults smile.

To the staff and international volunteers that work so hard pre-event & during the event, you are all amazing people. I am glad I had the opportunity to participate in the community project that really did make a big difference in the lives of so many people this Christmas.

Salamat...

School Supplies Project Update

This expanded project will see Les Treacy visiting another small regional school in the Philippines next week.

Love the support with this wonderful project. When launching these it's always on our minds whether we will reach our fundraising goal and be able to successfully deliver the base project.

Many thanks to all the kind project sponsors so far.

It's very exciting to announce that as a direct result of the generous support, next week we will provide additional much needed school supplies to 77 students in regional Philippines. These school supplies will help them greatly with their studies.

Further updates to follow....

Nutrition project update

The kitchen could be considered small but it is always a busy place when it's food preparation time!

Les & Debbie recently helped out local parents Aida & Margarita in the kitchen. It was great to share some time with the kids. They are always appreciative for the nutritious meal. Their parents pass on their sincere thanks to the sponsors.

Also the day gave us a chance to talk to teacher Ms Joan about further ways to help the school. Hopefully Les will be able to provide a few preloved educational toys and books when he returns to Tacloban in December.

This school year have managed to provide many meals to the young children in this community with the generous support so far from the following sponsors:-

1) Staff from Clemenger International Freight (Melbourne, Australia)
2) Friends Keith & Tricia (Aberdeen, Scotland)
3) Lovely folk from Darebin North West Uniting Church

Your generous donations go a long way towards our goal of providing 10,000 meals to children this Philippines school year.

Thank you for joining us on this journey. United together with all of our kind friends, we can make a difference!

Another swimming lesson activity that has given the children plenty of fun yesterday.
Learning some basic techniques from blowing bubbles, how to be safe in the water, and getting them feel confident.
Such a funtastic opportunity and the kids really enjoyed it!

Thanks to our amazing teachers,

Also to our UAP and VFV staff for helping out yesterday.

Update: 700 Sets of School Supplies Project....

Yes we have revised our original target of assisting 600 school children in the Philippines to now 700. This is due to the wonderful support of our individual sponsors and our new major business sponsor for this project - Innovative Dental.

Jeanette, Naser and the awesome dental crew at Innovative Dental have very generously covered international courier costs of the school supplies for the latest distribution to 200 children.

On Friday we visited Villa Sofia Elementary School in Tagpuro, Northern Tacloban, Philippines. We were greeted by 200 young children very excited to see the United Aid Projects & Volunteer for the Visayans teams. Even though it was end of semester exam day, all of the kids were extremely excited to greet our jeepney when it arrived.

The kids were sincerely thankful for their school supplies. One child had tears of happiness when he saw his new pencils in the stationary case. We understood why when he showed us his small well used pencil stub that was only a inch long.

This is just one of many stories we could share about the happiness that the new school supplies brought to these children.

Thank you Fran and the fellow teaching staff at the school for your warm hospitality.

Also thank you EsTer, Jude, & July for helping with distribution. And Catherine, Lilibelle and Rico for helping with the pencil upgrade preparation the previous day.

From little things, big things continue to grow......

Les & Debbie

PS: Innovative Dental are in Les's local community and have been following United Aid Projects growing aid reach for many years.
